Dr Frikkie Rademan is a specialist general surgeon trained at Stellenbosch University both pre- and postgraduate, with extensive experience in colorectal, pelvic floor and minimally invasive surgery.
He started his practice in 2001 at Mediclinic Durbanville and speciality interests includes colorectal and rectal cancer surgery, pelvic floor reconstruction, prolapse and incontinence treatment, hernia surgery, anal procedures, endoscopy and complex abdominal surgery.
He has played a leading role in the development of robotic-assisted colorectal and pelvic floor surgery in South Africa. His experience with the da Vinci platform extends across complex colorectal resections, rectal cancer surgery and pelvic floor reconstruction.

2017 South Africa’s first qualified robotic surgeon
In 2017 Dr Rademan became South Africa’s first qualified robotic surgeon, placing him among the country’s earliest specialists to gain direct clinical experience in robotic-assisted colorectal surgery.
2017 Pioneer of robotic pelvic floor surgery
In June 2017 Dr Rademan was part of the Mediclinic Durbanville team that performed South Africa’s first pelvic floor prolapse repair using the da Vinci robotic system. [Read the Mediclinic article]
2023 World-first combined robotic cancer surgery
Together with urologist Dr Gawie Bruwer, Dr Rademan performed the first reported simultaneous robotic procedures for rectal and prostate cancer.

2012 Founder of the Mediclinic Durbanville Pelvic Unit
Dr Rademan established the dedicated Pelvic Unit at Mediclinic Durbanville with specialist colleagues in 2012. The multidisciplinary unit evaluates and treats patients with prolapse and incontinence using surgical and non-surgical treatment options including robotic surgery and InterStim sacral neuromodulation.
Clinical approach
Dr Rademan believes that surgical technology must support clinical judgement rather than replace it. The value of robotic, minimally invasive or laser-assisted surgery is determined by whether it improves surgical precision, recovery and the patient’s long-term outcome.
